Competencies
During the aspirant (probationary) period and throughout membership, training on all aspects of the teams operation continues.
- Cliff Members – Skilled and experienced with rescue and working at height
- Search Members – Skilled and experienced with Land Search and Rescue
- Water Members – Skilled and experienced with water and water margin Search and Rescue from still or swift-water in lakes, rivers, wiers or floods
- Support Members – Those who make valuable contributions in keeping A&SSAR running, but do not routinely get involved in rescue
Core competencies that will be focused on during the aspirant period;
Navigation, personal equipment, personal health, Basic Life Support, search techniques, hazard awareness (water margin, helicopter, steep ground), call-out discipline, casualty site discipline, radios
